Mark Labbett, 54, showed-off his slimmer physique in a Twitter selfie this week, after he managed to lose weight during coronavirus lockdown. The Chase star, who is known as ‘The Beast’, pulled the larger waistline of an old pair of trousers forward to reveal the gap that his larger frame used to fill. While he confessed there was “still a long way to go”, social media users showered the ITV star with compliments for his progress so far. This is one of a number of times Mark has tried to lose weight and appears to be determined to stick to his new strict diet. But unearthed accounts revealed that during one weight loss attempt he was savagely snubbed by TV producers and denied the dream of appearing on a programme.

Mark confessed that he would “love to” participate in a TV dance competition and take a break away from his role as a quiz show game master.

He denied rumours that he had been headhunted by producers from BBC show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ but did admit to having tried out for another.

The Chaser told Digital Spy in 2018: “I have been approached by ‘Dancing On Ice’ but they decided quite reasonably I was too dangerous to my partner.

“I went and did an audition with them. I went to an ice rink and I did a test where I skated up and down a bit.”

He revealed the crushing reason why he couldn’t take part in the competition.

Mark said: “They saw me walking on my ice skates and decided it was too dangerous to my partner.

“Even though I’ve lost weight I’m still 24 stone and if I fall on someone, they’ve had it.”

He confessed that he would consider other reality TV shows but only “if the fee is good”.

That includes ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ despite his reservations about how he would cope with the food rations.

Mark added in 2018: “I’ve been dieting [but] I am still eating three or four thousand calories a day and apparently in the jungle it’s about 800.

“The weight will fall off me and I’m only half joking when I say that after two weeks in the jungle, cannibalism might be on the cards.”

When asked whether he would be put off by eating bugs and animals during Bushtucker Trials he confessed it wouldn’t bother him.

He said: “Are you kidding me? I’d take one look and go ‘calories!’. I’d look forward to it.”

While it is not known how much Mark has lost during his recent weight loss, in 2019 he shed two-and-a-half stone thanks to a “healthier new lifestyle”.

At his heaviest the star weighed more than 27st (378lb).

On July 28, he shared a weight loss selfie with the caption: “Lost a bit of waistline, still a long way to go 🙂 #skinnybeast #doubletwoshirts.”

In a post two days later at a pub quiz he looked noticeably slimmer than previous appearances on TV.
