LINE of Duty stars Martin Compston and Vicky McClure have teased a potential return of AC12 – amid rumours of a new series.

On Friday morning, the actors – taking part in Sunday's Soccer Aid – appeared on Good Morning Britain and addressed the recent rumours of a seventh season.

It comes after the pair were spotted out for dinner with the Line of Duty writer Jed Mercurio and their co-star Adrian Dunbar on Tuesday – sending fans into a frenzy.

And those praying for another season will be encouraged by their words on GMB, with both actors telling presenters Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard that they were up for continuing.

Of the cast friendships, Martin said: "We did say if we ever got 12 million we’d get tattoos AC12 million, but we haven’t got it yet.

"If we ever do another series, I think it’ll be something we all do together then."

Probing, Kate then asked: "So are you then, doing another series?”

With a grin on her face, Vicky replied: "Nothing’s planned as yet – we just went out for a nice meal," before Kate exclaimed: "Teases the lot of you!"

"No I’m telling the truth," said Vicky, adding: "Nothing planned and set in stone.

"Like Martin said before, we always have a long break in between series so it’s not really too abnormal to what we normally do."

Martin then told of his gratitude for the fans of the series and that he was "chuffed" that people want the crew to come back.

He added: "We’ve done ten years now and the fact that people still want to see the show is amazing – and if there’s still a story to be told, I’m sure Jed will bring us back."

Earlier this week, Martin – who plays Steve Arnott – took to Instagram alongside his co-stars.

The four pals smiled for the camera, as the Scottish actor teased fans of the show, captioning the photo: "Talking tattoo designs."

The sixth season of the critically-acclaimed BBC crime drama wrapped last year, however, there's been no confirmation of when or if a seventh instalment will air.

Despite that, fans were left reeling over Martin's recent upload, with dozens left crossing their fingers that another season could be on the horizon.

Line of Duty is available to watch on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
