Speculation continues over where popular TV shows like “The Office” will stream as new services emerge.
NBCUniversal discussed its upcoming streamer during an event in New York on Monday, and the company’s  chairman of advertising and client partnerships, Linda Yaccarino, shared some interesting information. She told the audience that when the ad-supported platform launches in 2020, “the shows that people love the most and stream the most are coming home,” per Deadline. But before anyone becomes too alarmed, she noted that the service will be free given that it’s paid for by ads.
The company is planning to have “a gigantic library of all favorites,” and “The Office” seems like a great candidate. The show is the current most-watched show on Netflix, as the Wall Street Journal reported, so it could be a big draw at some point after NBCUniversal launches its streaming service. In fact, WSJ noted that Yaccarino talked about various NBC characters, including Jim and Pam of “The Office.” Netflix does, however, have a deal for exclusive streaming rights until 2021.
The streaming landscape continues to evolve. WarnerMedia is also launching its own service, and there’s talk that “Friends” — another favorite on Netflix — will move to it. We may have to get used to some changes (like commercials), but at least these beloved shows will still be available to watch somewhere.
