Get ready for even more twists and turns in Outer Banks Season 2. We might be nearing the end of the Netflix series’ sophomore season, but there’s still plenty of action left. Find out who gets “Trapped” in episode 9. Plus, the shocking truth about Ward Cameron (Charles Esten).
[SPOILER ALERT: Spoilers ahead for Outer Banks Season 2, Episode 9, “Trapped.”]
Denmark Tanney’s cross is no longer ‘Trapped’
At the end of episode 8, “The Cross,” the Pogues finally uncover where Denmark Tanney — Pope Heyward’s (Jonathan Daviss) distant relative — hid the Cross of Santo Domingo. After the cross falls from the ceiling and nearly kills Pope, the Pogues can’t agree on what to do with it.
J.J. (Rudy Pankow) wants to melt it down and convert it into cash to make up for what they lost from the Royal Merchant gold. But John B. (Chase Stokes) thinks the cross should be in a museum for everyone to learn the truth about the Limbreys and the Tanneys. Meanwhile, Pope is having an allergic reaction to the wasps that stung him in the rafters.
Carla Limbrey is ‘Trapped’ by her ailment
The mysterious Carla Limbrey (Elizabeth Mitchell) has been the main protagonist in Outer Banks Season 2. Second only to Ward Cameron, of course.
It’s unclear what ails Carla, but her primary motivation is the garment rumored to be contained in the Cross of Santo Domingo. “If only I should touch the garment, I will be made well,” Limbrey says. But when she finally gets her hands on the massive gold cross, she finds it empty.
Rafe Cameron’s desire to please Ward Cameron remains his motivation
Is it a coincidence Rafe’s (Drew Starkey) name is one letter off from “rage?” We don’t think so.
Ward might be out of the picture, but that doesn’t mean Rafe’s motivations have changed. He still seeks the approval of his father — something that echos from Outer Banks Season 1.
“A lot of his motivations are driven by this really unhealthy need to satisfy his father,” Starkey tells Pop Culturalist. “Besides that, he’s this narcissistic sociopath borderline addict.” Sadly, those qualities have worsened for Rafe in season 2.
The Camerons make their exodus from OBX
Rose Cameron (Caroline Arapoglou) has been plotting her exit from Figure Eight since Ward’s trip to the Bahamas. Her plans finally come to a head in “Trapped” after she learns Rafe has secured the Cross of Santo Domingo.
After Rose drugs her, Sarah (Madelyn Cline) wakes up on a cargo ship locked in a room. Little does she know the Pogues aren’t far behind her.
The Pogues are ‘Trapped’ on a cargo ship
With Kiara (Madison Bailey) one wrong move away from therapy and Pope desperate to get his hands on his family’s legacy, the Pogues plot their way onto the cargo ship The Coastal Venture. After orchestrating a massive explosion on the wharf, the Pogues sneak into a shipping container with nothing left to lose.
Pope is after the Cross of Santo Domingo. John B. (Chase Stokes) is after Sarah. And Kiara and J.J. are along for the ride — “Pogues for life.”
Ward Cameron isn’t dead in ‘Outer Banks’ Season 2
In the Outer Banks Season 2 episode “My Druthers,” the Camerons watch as Ward goes down with his ship. After the Kildare County police corner Ward for his involvement in Sheriff Peterkin’s (Adina Porter) death, he sees no other way out.
But in episode 9, fans learn the shocking truth. Ward faked his death.
As Sarah tries to get out of the room she’s locked in on the cargo ship, Ward opens the door. Tune in the season 2 finale of Outer Banks to find out what Ward’s return means for the Pogues.
