Claire Fraser’s (played by Caitriona Balfe) hidden identity as a time traveller from the twentieth century has come close to being exposed in Outlander before. Now, viewers are speculating another fan favourite character could be about to discover truth in the current season on Starz.

In the current fifth season of Outlander, Jamie (Sam Heughan) has had his loyalties tested as Governor Tryon (Tim Downie) wages war against the Regulators.

In the latest episode, Better Marry Than Burn, the leader of the faction, and Jamie’s godfather, has just confessed his unrequited love to Aunt Jocasta (Maria Doyle Kennedy).

Meanwhile, Claire does her best to defend Fraser’s Ridge as she continues to train her young apprentice, Marsali (Lauren Lyle) into a fully-fledged surgeon.

Since her introduction in season three, Marsali has been a fan favourite character, eventually marrying Jamie’s surrogate son, Fergus (César Domboy).

Thanks to Claire’s strangely advanced medical skills, Marsali has often been suspicious of her origins and frequently enquires whether she may actually be a witch.

Some fans have speculated Marsali’s curiosity could yield results in the upcoming episodes, as she and her husband Fergus are surely next on the list of Fraser’s to finally discover the truth about the enigmatic power couple.

One fan took to Reddit to discuss how Marsali’s potential discovery could affect the tide of season five.

Redditor CommanderMayDay said: “Marsali is clearly the favorite for MVP this season. Can butcher, sew sutures, cut miscreants down with withering snark and now has the smarts to know when not to pry with Bri.

“Also, apparently personally responsible for the population boom at Fraser’s Ridge. I am full-on Team Marsali.”

Thanks to Marsali’s advanced nursing training, many more babies are surviving than normally would in the 18th Century.

Plus, she has a baby on the way herself to add to the young population – or a ‘bairn’, as Jamie would say.

However, the fan speculated: “Also think Marsali will corner Claire into revealing her secret this season.”

Marsali has already accused Claire of witchcraft this season, which brought back traumatic memories of being tried for witchcraft in Scotland.

Another fan concurred with the theory, and added: “Agree on Marsali. Which is nice to see when you consider her mother’s history. I am a bit surprised Marasali and Fergus have yet to be told.”

It is particularly strange considering Marsali and Fergus are considered son and daughter almost as much as Claire and Jamie’s biological daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and her husband, Roger (Richard Rankin).

One more fan added another spark to the theory, suggesting Fergus could also have a hand in unveiling Claire’s time-hopping secret.
