Prue Leith loses eye-watering amount of money on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith had Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? viewers howling as she crashed out on a question about the Titanic.

After Piers Morgan donated £15,000 of his own money to charity following a disastrous appearance in Jeremy Clarkson’s hot seat, Prue, 80, had an even more painful loss.

The culinary queen was one correct answer away from winning £64,000 but was flummoxed when asked: ‘Which of these senior crew members on RMS Titanic survived the sinking?’

After using her 50/50, she was left with just Second Officer Charles Lightoller and Captain Edward Smith, but still the GBBO star was none the wiser.

Then came the phone a friend, which proved to be no help at all.

All that was left was to take the money and run or gamble.

Prue gambled, opted for Captain Edward Smith and lost a staggering £48,000 for the charity of her choice.

While she did leave the studio with £16,000, viewers were stunned she fluffed the question, despite confirming she’s watched the 1997 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

‘Can’t believe that Pru said the Captain of the Titanic survived!!! I thought that was astonishingly easy as 50/50’s go,’ cried one viewer, which was followed by: ‘I thought everyone knew Captain Smith went down the Titanic.’

A third agreed: ‘Wtf Prue!! Has she not even watched Titanic bloody nora.’

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is available to stream on ITV Hub.
