Warning: potential spoilers for Sex Education season 3.

A leaked trailer for Sex Education season 3 has seemingly teased a new romance for Otis (Asa Butterfield) as tension continues to brew between him and Maeve (Emma Mackey).

Throughout the past two seasons of Sex Education, fans of the Netflix show have been desperate to see Otis and Maeve get together, after they first teamed up to create a business offering sex and relationship advice to teens at their school.

However, their relationship has since hit a rocky patch, with viewers hoping they’ll reconcile in the new episodes after watching new clips of the upcoming season.

A trailer for season three was shared on Twitter, although it was then swiftly taken down.

Nonetheless, fans still had ample time to watch it and express their shock after learning that Otis might end up hooking up with Ruby (Mimi Keene), one of the Untouchable clique.

In one part of the trailer, a pair of hands – possibly belonging to Ruby – were shown dragging him into a toilet cubicle.

At another point, he and Ruby seem to be holding hands while walking into school, both of them lowering their sunglasses in unison.

Fans couldn’t believe the prospect of Otis and Ruby becoming an item after previously sleeping together after a party, with one tweeting: ‘Otis and Ruby being besties with benefits ??? Yup yup that’s excellence right there.’

‘I ship Otis and ruby and Maeve and Otis DONT JUDGE this season is gonna be good,’ another said.

Otis’ mother, Jean (Gillian Anderson), also has a lot on her plate, after finding out that she is pregnant when she thought that she was just going through the menopause.

Meanwhile at school, things are going to be shaken up by the arrival of new headteacher Hope Haddon (Jemima Kirke), as she implements strict new measures to make the academic institution and its pupils appear more presentable.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Netflix for information on the trailer release.

Sex Education season 3 is due to be released on Netflix on September 17.
