Silent Witness fans were excited to see what enthusiastic pathologist Adam Yeun (played by Jason Wong) was going to bring to the table. He was introduced in series 24 to fill the gap left behind following the death of Thomas Chamberlain (Richard Lintern) and the departure of Clarissa Mullery (Liz Carr). Sadly, Adam wasn’t able to reach his full potential in the long-running BBC drama as he was unexpectedly killed off.

Why did Adam Yeun actor Jason Wong leave Silent Witness?

Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox), Jack Hodgson (David Caves) and Adam were investigating the deaths of Wilfred Okoye and those living in a village called Benin.

They concluded that it was Dr Emily Braithwaite that was behind it all and she died of a heart attack as a result of the stress the investigation had caused.

While Nikki and Jack were happy with this result, Adam was not.

He knew there was something wrong and needed to work out what so he did some of his own research.

This led to him figuring out that it was actually Professor Alan Cowley (Nicholas Farrell) who was responsible and had been framing Braithwaite for his crimes.

Adam noticed there was an issue with Braithwaite’s boiler and discovered Cowley had gassed her.

He was poisoning people so he could use them for his stem cell research.

The young pathologist confronted the professor who didn’t seem too threatened at first.

This was until Adam was getting ready to call Nikki and let her know who the real culprit was.

Realising he was going to ruin his entire operation, Cowley drove straight into Adam and left him for dead.

Unfortunately, he didn’t make it and so this ended his journey with the Silent Witness team.

There is no indication that actor Wong had quit the show, given how he had only just joined the drama.

The most likely reason for the early departure is that the creators wrote Adam into the show just so they could carry out this storyline.

Speaking about his time on Silent Witness, Wong explained to Radio Times: “I’ve played a lot of gangsters, tough guys, all these police officers and I’ve never really had much of an opportunity to play vulnerability.

“And so there’s a moment where my character is very vulnerable and sharing something from his past to Dr Nikki Alexander.

“And it was a really nice moment to be able to do that and have that moment with Emilia Fox on screen.

“And yeah, it was just nice to be vulnerable and play vulnerability on camera.”

The writers aren’t letting the dust settle before introducing Adam’s replacement though.

Forensic Ecologist Simone Tyler is going to be joining the team and is someone who is described as “a zealous and meticulous ecologist, who is making a massive jump from the museum to the mortuary”.

She is played by former Casualty and Shadow and Bone actress Genesis Lynea.

Silent Witness is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
