Lee Carter (Danny Hatchard) made a surprise appearance in EastEnders tonight (December 31) in a series of flashback scenes.
Mick (Danny Dyer) has been struggling with the discovery that he was abused by carer Katy Lewis (Simone Lahbib) when he was 12.
He’s been unable to open up, and Linda (Kellie Bright) has come to believe that he doesn’t want her any more, given that he’s been pushing her away.
Therefore, she’s grown closer to Max Branning (Jake Wood) and ultimately decided to go to New Zealand with him.
Before doing so, however, the much-loved couple resolved to tell their eldest son Lee about their separation.
The scenes in question seemingly took place shortly after Christmas, and Lee was devastated — as were the rest of the nation — to learn that Mick and Linda were splitting up.
However, he soon realised that something wasn’t right, and thus came to believe that Mick is battling depression.
Therefore, he pleaded with his dad to open up ‘before it’s too late.’
‘You need to talk to someone’, Lee said. ‘You don’t look all right. I should know, I’ve been there, remember? Exactly where you are now. I know what it’s like. I know where it leads.’
In present day scenes, tonight’s episode saw Mick contemplate suicide.
EastEnders continues New Year’s Day at 8pm on ITV.
