Christmas is notoriously a disastrous time for the residents of Albert Square in EastEnders, and this year it’s going to be particularly chaotic as the truth about Sharon Mitchell’s (Letitia Dean) dalliance with Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) — not to mention the fact that her baby is his and not Phil’s (Steve McFadden) — is set to out in a truly epic fashion.

Over the last few weeks, the tension has mounted, as Phil (Steve McFadden) has become increasingly suspicious of Sharon — so much so that he’s started to believe that there might be some truth in Lisa’s (Lucy Benjamin) claims about how he’s not the father of his wife’s baby.

After working out that this is, in fact, the case, he enlisted Ben (Max Bowden) to help him get to the bottom of things, and — although he initially thought the guilty party was Jack (Scott Maslen), he’ll soon will soon come to realise that it’s Keanu that’s been sleeping with his wife.

The way in which he does so has yet to be revealed, but if history has taught us anything about the Mitchell hardman, it’s that Phil will reign down hell on those who’ve wronged him. Yes, Keanu will no doubt find himself in the firing line, but the question is: how far will things go?

Speaking to, EastEnders’ Senior Executive Producer Kate Oates said: ‘If you cross one Mitchell, you cross them all. There’s a little bit of a twist in there as to who will strike the killer blow.’

We can only speculate as to what this could mean, but — with Keanu soon set to exit the soap — could he be the one to feel Phil’s wrath more so than Sharon?

If so, will Phil go all the way and murder Keanu?

It’s definitely a possibility, given that the Walford legend has something of a reputation when it comes to violence.

As for crossing all the Mitchells, could Ben’s involvement in helping Phil get to the truth result in him getting caught up in his dad’s revenge?

One to watch: Christmas Day at 9:30pm on BBC One.
