The Handmaid’s Tale fans convinced Gilead will wage war on Canada to avenge baby Nichole – with Nick leading invasion – The Sun

FANS of The Handmaid’s Tale are convinced Gilead will wage war on Canada in series four.

The gruelling finale of season three of Hulu’s American dystopian tragedy web television series, based on the 1985 novel of the same name, finished on a massive cliff-hanger.

And with production of the hotly-anticipated fourth series threatened by the coronavirus outbreak, speculation about what will happen next has gone into overdrive.

In the last episode, June (played by Elisabeth Moss) dealt a perilous blow to the oppressive state of Gilead by smuggling more than 100 children into Canada.

The handmaid was then detained by a Gilead guard and was left on the floor bleeding from her stomach.

With June potentially laid low, fans have been speculating how the rebellion can be reignited by her husband Luke (O. T. Fagbenle) and the other handmaids when series four rolls around.

In addition, June’s ex-lover Nick Blaine (Max Minghella) is now a commander, and could be well-placed to seek revenge on his employers – although that was dismissed by some.

Fans missing the show took to social media to discuss the upcoming season.

One Reddit commenter proposed: “My theory is Nick is going to lead the invasion of Canada.”
Though they continued: “Also it would not be characteristic of Nick at all. He does not rock his career in any way.

“Whether he hates it or not is debatable, the fact is we've never seen him openly rebel against his role.

“He does what is asked of him and he does it fairly meekly. He is not trying to get out of Gilead.”

Some viewers have also suggested June could eventually die to fit with the tone of Margaret Atwood’s original novel, which leaves it ambiguous as to whether or not the narrator survives her ordeal.

Prior to the coronavirus outbreak, the fourth season had been plagued with filming delays – leaving a 2020 release in jeopardy.

The dystopian drama kicked off production earlier this year but has been held up when it comes to filming due to a range of logistical issues.

Once coronavirus has passed, production is expected to resume as quickly as possible.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 is now available to stream on Hulu.
