The Suspect is an upcoming series for ITV and the five-parter promises to have viewers on the edge of their seats. The show is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Robotham, which was his first ever book. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about the release date, cast and more.

When is The Suspect out on ITV?

ITV announced it had commissioned the psychological thriller series in October 2021 and it has already generated plenty of excitement.

World Production is adapting the novel for the small screen, and it is being made by the producers of shows like Line of Duty, Vigil and The Pembrokeshire Murders.

The Suspect will be filmed on location in London during the autumn of 2021.

With this in mind, no release date has been given just yet, as it is hard to say how long the project will take.

Hopefully, viewers will see the new series come to light by the autumn of 2022.

Who is in the cast of The Suspect?

The series is about Joseph O’Loughlin (played by Aidan Turner), a complex character who has a hidden dark side.

He will be joined by Shaun Parkes (Small Axe, Lost in Space), Sian Clifford (Quiz, Fleabag), Camilla Beeput (Save Me (Too), Peep Show), Adam James (Vigil, Doctor Foster) and Anjli Mohindra (Vigil, Bodyguard).

Irish actor Turner is best known for his role as Ross Poldark in the hit series Poldark.

He has also starred in Leonardo, Being Human and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Turner said he was “thrilled” to be taking on the demanding role, saying his character has “so much to give but so much to lose”.

Is there a trailer for The Suspect?

As filming is only just starting, there is no trailer for The Suspect at this moment in time.

ITV is likely to release a trailer in the weeks running up to the release date, so fans may expect something towards the end of summer in 2022.

The series is being directed by James Strong and has been written by Peter Berry.

Berry said: “Bringing The Suspect to the screen has been a fantastic and fascinating journey.

“I hope the audience will find it equally enthralling as they delve the depths of a truly iconic character caught up in a story that will test his faith in his profession, his family and himself.”

What is The Suspect about?

The series is about a doctor, Joe O’Loughlin, who from the outside looks as if he leads the perfect life.

The clinical psychologist has a loving wife and daughter, and his other successes include a publishing deal.

But this community hero is seen in a different light after a young woman is found at a West London cemetery.

DI Vincent Ruiz and DS Riya Devi are on hand to investigate whether it was a murder or suicide.

The police call on Joe for advice, but his involvement unearths a number of his dark secrets.

Joe has just been diagnosed with a debilitating illness that could also hinder the investigation.

As the story unfolds, fans will be asking whether the real Joe has been explored or whether there is more than meets the eye.

As a clinical psychologist, he may well have developed a criminal mindset.

Fans have taken to Twitter to share their initial thoughts, with Ann Baldwin saying: “I love all the richly deserved comments praising #AidanTurner in the various articles about The Suspect.

“Easy to see why this deep, dark, complex role appealed to him. He’s not someone to go for the formulaic ‘action’ man roles so many actors choose these days.”

The Suspect will air on ITV.
