While the Marvel Cinematic Universe usually produces only three solo movies for its superheroes, many fans had hope that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would be different. Unfortunately, Holland may have just revealed that Spider-Man: No Way Home is the finale to the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy. And we all know how the actor can be when it comes to spoilers. So is this the end of Tom Holland playing Peter Parker?

Is ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ the end of the line for Tom Holland?

Tom Holland recently sat down to talk about his upcoming MCU film with Entertainment Weekly. He described Spider-Man: No Way Home as a “conclusion” to the story that started in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Holland said, “We were all treating [Spider-Man: No Way Home] as the end of a franchise, let’s say. I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you’d be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy. We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don’t know. But we were definitely treating [Spider-Man: No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it.”

Cue the sad tears from Marvel fans everywhere. While Holland’s comments don’t outright say that he will no longer play Peter Parker, they make us believe that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be the final solo Spider-Man film in the MCU.

Holland joined the MCU in 2016

Spider-Man: No Way Home marks the sixth MCU film Peter Parker will appear in and his third solo film. In 2016, the world was introduced to the MCU’s version of the web-slinger in Captain America: Civil War. At the time, Peter was only 15 years old, and no one knew of his secret identity except for Tony Stark. Stark recruited him to be on Team Iron Man in the fight against Team Captain America, and the rest is history.

Since then, Holland appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and, now, in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Peter was one of the victims of the Blip when Thanos used the Infinity Stones to wipe out half of the universe’s population. Five years later, the Avengers brought him and everyone else back. And at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mysterio reveals Peter’s identity as Spider-Man. This cliffhanger will set up the events of the third Spider-Man solo film.

Everything we know about ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s premise reads, “With Spider-Man’s identity now revealed, our friendly neighborhood web-slinger is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life as Peter Parker from the high stakes of being a superhero. When Peter asks for help from Doctor Strange, the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”

In the trailer for the movie, Peter turns to Doctor Strange for help. He wants to make the world forget he is Spider-Man, but he doesn’t want his loved ones to forget too. Unfortunately, Peter’s tampering with Doctor Strange’s spell seems to break open the multiverse. And that’s where Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus come in.

Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres exclusively in theaters on Dec. 17.
