Trump’s Bedminster golf club expected to lose 2022 PGA Championship as ‘any affiliation’ with the president is ‘poisonous’
- The PGA Championship is one of the biggest events on the annual golf calendar
- The Trump National Golf Club has previously hosted one women’s major
- Trump is estimated to have golfed more than 300 times during his presidency
- The day after the Capitol riot, Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to three golfers, including Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam
- Wednesday’s riot has been connected with five deaths and countless arrests
Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course likely will be stripped of a major tournament on the 2022 PGA Tour calendar in the latest fallout from Wednesday’s Capitol riot.
The decision to take away the 2022 PGA Championship – one of the sport’s major tournaments – hasn’t been announced yet.
But Eamon Lynch of Golfweek believes the decision will likely come after Trump is out of office, though.
‘The odds that ’22’s PGA Championship will happen as scheduled in New Jersey are about as good as the chances of you or I winning it,’ Lynch wrote on Saturday, clearly tongue-in-cheek.

One report from Golfweek suggests the 2022 PGA Championship will be played elsewhere
‘Seth Waugh, the PGA of America’s CEO, was a banker and has an alert eye for high-risk exposure. He knows that Trumpism is likely to be an equally incendiary force in the ’22 midterm elections and that any affiliation is poisonous.
‘Waugh will be forced to move the event and face down a small but vocal faction of his membership who remain true believers.’
Lynch also suggested that the decision could come after Joe Biden’s inauguration, writing ‘concerns melt away in 10 days, if not sooner.’
The PGA has debated moving the championship for some time.
Thursday, golfer Gary Player was awarded from the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump
Trump also awarded the Medal of Freedom to Annika Sorenstam and Babe Zaharias
‘Moving its major from Trump National has been debated internally at the PGA for more than two years, but executives have been reluctant to antagonize a famously vindictive man who controls the Internal Revenue Service.’ Lynch wrote.
The 2022 PGA Championship was set to be the first men’s major to take place at Trump National Golf Club.
The U.S. Women’s Open took place there in 2017, which was won by South Korean Park Sung-hyun.
That Medal of Freedom awards came just one day after Wednesday’s Capitol riots

Golf has always been the favored sport of Trump, or at least the sport he has been most connected with over the years.
The president owns at least 17 golf clubs around the world, including several in Florida.
Trump famously admonished Barack Obama for the amount of time the former president spent golfing, but GNN estimates Trump has golfed at least 308 times during his presidency.
The day after the riots at the Capitol, Trump actually awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to three golfers: Annika Sorenstam, Gary Player, and the late Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
The possible removal of one of golf’s biggest tournaments from Trump National is the latest in a line of responses after Trump helped incite the Wednesday riot that is connected to at least five deaths.
Some fans of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York are calling for Trump to be digitally removed from his role in the film.
‘I won’t rest until he is removed from that scene in Home Alone 2,’ wrote Matt Navarra on Twitter.

Foreign leaders, domestic leaders, and diplomats are also condemning the president, who has since been blocked from using most social media sites indefinitely.
‘Failing to publicly hold the president to account would further damage our democracy and our ability to effectively accomplish our foreign policy goals abroad,’ one cable from diplomats to the State Department read, according to the Associated Press.
Other cancellations related to the riot include Simon & Schuster cancelling Sen. Josh Hawley’s planned book and Apple and Amazon removing right-wing social media app Parler from their platforms.
One of the remaining fallouts that could be in the works is Trump’s removal from office.
It doesn’t seem likely for the 25th Amendment to be invoked, but House Democrats are aiming on an impeachment vote this week.
Biden’s inauguration is set for January 20.
