A MAN has died after being hit by a London bus in a horror smash.

The bus driver, 59, fled the scene and has since been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and for failing to stop at the scene.

Medics battled to save the victim, 40, who suffered "serious injuries" – but he tragically died in hospital.

Cops were called to the hospital by staff at around 9.20pm on 21 January.

Officers believe he was hit by the bus in Hounslow, West London at around 7.19 pm that night.

His name has not been officially released, but police are aware of his identity and his family have been informed.

The driver has since been released on bail.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 02085435157 or call 101 and quote reference 6583/21 Jan.
