  • Two arson attacks on Stamfordham Road in North Shields in two weeks

  • Officers were called again after van and car were set alight on April 13 

This is the shocking moment hooded vandals were caught on camera torching a van and a car as police probe the second arson attack on the same street in two weeks. 

Police are currently looking to establish whether the incidents at the same property on Stamfordham Road in North Shields are linked.

Emergency services were first called to a vehicle fire at the scene just before 11pm on March 30, where a van had been set alight.

Then on Tuesday April 13, officers were again called to the street following a report that a car and van had been targeted by arsonists.

Shocking CCTV footage showed the vehicles being damaged as Northumbria Police asks for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson said: ‘Shortly before 11pm on March 30 we were called to an address on Stamfordham Avenue in North Shields following a report of a van fire.

‘Emergency services attended and found a van that had been set on fire.

‘The fire was extinguished and thankfully nobody was injured.

‘An investigation was launched immediately after the incident with enquiries ongoing to identify those responsible.

Referring to the second incident, a spokesperson added: ‘Shortly after 10.45pm on Tuesday we received a report of a vehicle fire on Stamfordham Avenue in North Shields.

‘Emergency services attended and found a car and van had been set on fire. The blaze was extinguished and thankfully nobody was injured.

‘Police are treating the cause of the fire as suspected arson and an investigation has been launched to identify those responsible.
