Neighbours chase down murder suspect after woman in 40s stabbed to death at flats in leafy London suburb

HEROIC locals chased after a knifeman moments after he repeatedly stabbed a woman to death in her flat.

Detectives launched a murder investigation after the woman in her 40s was knifed last night in leafy Cheam, South-West London.


Terrified locals called 999 after hearing the horror. Residents said the suspect was chased after the attack.

He was then arrested by police on suspicion of murder.

Police said the man is believed to have known the victim. The casualty was today described as “lovely” and “kind”.

The tragedy happened in a block of flats next to a busy high street. 

One neighbour told The Sun today: “There were screams and shouting which alerted people.

“It was scary. One of the neighbours ran out after the suspect and then the police arrived swiftly later and arrested him a bit down the road.

“It was horrific. The woman was very kind and lovely.

"It’s so awful.”



Another said: “It’s sickening and disturbing. It’s awful.

“My heart goes out to her family.

"It’s so sad.”

The Met Police said they attended and found the woman suffering from stab injuries.

The force said: “Officers provided first aid prior to the arrival of the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

“Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.34pm.

"Next of kin are yet to be informed.

“Formal identification has not taken place.

"A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

“A man was detained nearby shortly after the call was made to police.

"He was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a South London police station where he remains in custody.

“At this early stage, it is believed he and the victim were known to each other.”
