A New Jersey man faces a reckless manslaughter charge in connection to the “neck compression” death of a woman during a sex romp in the backseat of her car, prosecutors said Saturday.
Francis Victoria Garcia, 19, of Maywood, was found dead early Saturday in her car on the roof of a parking garage alongside an 18-story high-rise in Hackensack, where she’d just left a Halloween party with beau-turned-suspect Michael Gaffney, 21, officials said.
Gaffney, also of Maywood and unemployed, was charged with reckless manslaughter later Saturday, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a statement.
An autopsy determined that Garcia’s death was caused by compression injuries to her neck. But it was not immediately clear whether rough sex was to blame. Musella termed it “a suspicious death.”
Police had received a 911 call reporting Garcia’s death at 2:14 a.m., prosecutors said.
The caller directed police to a detached parking garage at 140 Prospect Ave., a luxury high-rise apartment complex.
The woman had attended a loud, raucous Halloween party on the 14th floor on Friday night, a neighbor who asked not to be named told The Post.
The party was so loud that the doorman was summoned at one point, the neighbor said.
Garcia left the party with Gaffney, the Hackensack Daily Voice reported, citing a law enforcement source.
It’s unclear whether the two had just met.
Gaffney told cops that he and the woman had consumed prescription medication, according to the site.
They were having sex in the car when she lost consciousness, he added.
Garcia was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center, according to the paper.
Gaffney was ordered held without bail at the Bergen County Jail pending an appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
