Police appeal for witnesses, videos after boy stabbed in Brighton brawl

A 17-year-old Elwood boy was left with serious injuries after being stabbed during a brawl with 20 youths in Brighton on Saturday night.

Investigators are keen to speak to anyone who saw the brawl, the lead-up to it or anyone who has video of the incident. Locals are being urged to check CCTV video of people running from the scene in the surrounding streets.

Police were called to the vicinity of Elsternwick Park at around 9.30pm after reports of a brawl.

The boy and his friends were approached by a group of about 20 people they didn’t know and police believe a verbal dispute led to the boy being stabbed in the abdomen before the group escaped through the park.

The boy was taken to hospital and police set up a crime scene on Sunday morning to look for clues.

They have also appealed to local businesses to look at any CCTV footage from the time of the incident as it may have captured images of the youths running from the scene.

Anyone with information or video for police can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report at www.crimestoppers.com.au
