A COP has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following an assault at a college in Scunthorpe.

Humberside Police tonight confirmed a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after the incident at 2.40pm this afternoon.

The boy remains in custody along with a 23-year-old man, the force confirmed.

Humberside Police said the alleged attack happened while two officers were on the premises responding to a separate incident.

The incident is isolated and there is no further threat to the public, the force confirmed.

A scene guard remains in place.

Chief Constable Lee Freeman tweeted: "A serious injury to one of my officers from Scunthorpe today whilst they were simply doing their job protecting others.

"We are supporting their family & colleagues and we will provide further updates when we can."

Karl Turner, Labour MP for East Hull, wrote: "We must never tolerate assaults on police officers when they are doing their jobs."
