Mike Pompeo says Biden administration should push China to allow scientists to inspect labs where viruses are being researched or face ‘real risk’ of another global pandemic
- Pompeo claimed the State Department had ‘highly vetted’ info that pointed to ‘significant evidence’ that the virus came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology
- The former Secretary of State said that there was a ‘real risk’ if China was allowed to continue researching viruses unmonitored
- ‘[The Biden Administration] should require the Chinese Communist Party…to allow scientists to actually come in and see the things they need to see,’ he said
- Pompeo contradicted Dr. Anthony Fauci and the U.S. Intelligence community by suggesting that the virus originated at the WIV
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed that the world could experience another pandemic if more stringent measures weren’t taken to observe Chinese labs researching viruses.
Speaking on Fox Business Wednesday, Pompeo said that the State Department had ‘highly vetted’ information that pointed to ‘significant evidence’ that the virus came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).
‘[The Biden Administration] should require the Chinese Communist Party…to allow scientists to actually come in and see the things they need to see and speak to the people they need to speak to,’ he said.

Pompeo continued: ‘This is a real risk. The Chinese Communist Party continues to conduct significant biological research, and they’re doing it in laboratories that have demonstrated they are not at the levels of security that the world should demand of them, and yet, the world seem to continue to permit them to do this.
‘We have to demand that the Chinese Communist Party cease this activity until they demonstrate to the world that they’re not going to push across the entire globe killing millions of people, destroying billions and billions of dollars worth of wealth from a virus that came from their country and they chose to cover it up.’
While with the Trump administration, Pompeo notoriously contradicted Dr. Anthony Fauci and the U.S. Intelligence community by releasing a statement that suggested that the virus originated at the WIV.
The statement from the State Department claimed that the U.S. government had evident that ‘several researchers inside the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) became sick in autumn 2019, before the first identified case of the outbreak, with symptoms consistent with both COVID-19 and common seasonal illnesses.’
Pompeo’s and Trump insistence on referring to the coronavirus as the ‘Wuhan Virus’ has shown correlation to the recent uptick in Anti-Asian attacks across the country.
More than 3,000 incidents have been reported to Stop AAPI Hate, a California-based reporting center for Asian American Pacific Islanders, and its partner advocacy groups, since mid-March 2020. Encounters don’t often rise to the legal definition of a hate crime, frustrating members of the community.
