Netflix renewed A Different World for a second season on October 2, 2026, just over a week after the first season premiered on September 24, according to What's on Netflix. The decision came before the first season had a full month on the service.
How season 1 performed
Per What's on Netflix, the series entered Netflix's Global Top 10 English TV list at number four, drew 4.2 million views and reached the Top 10 in 15 countries. Those are debut figures only; the report gives no later chart data.
The story
Season 2 follows Deborah and her Hillman classmates as they return for their sophomore year. The synopsis quoted in the report describes a fresh outlook colliding with past decisions, uncertain futures, new relationships and questions about their purpose, along with, in its words, plenty of new trouble.
The cast
The cast named is Maleah Joi Moon, Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece and Chibuikem Uche. Per the photo caption, Moon plays Deborah, Kai plays Rashida, Uche plays Kojo, Hall plays Amir and Reece plays Hazel. Which of the six return for the new season is not spelled out.
When it arrives
No premiere date has been given. Tracey Pakosta, Netflix's vice president of comedy series, spoke of "what unfolds next year at Hillman College", which points to 2027. The month and the episode count are still open.
Renewals of campus and workplace comedies are a regular item on this site; an earlier example is NBC's renewal of American Auto for a second season, reported in May 2022.
