MICHAEL OWEN was able to raise a smile as he arrived at Ascot for the races – just hours after daughter Gemma admitted that she would "lick" a horse's bum because it was "clean".

The shocking comment came as the girls were playing a game of outrageous questions in last night’s episode of the ITV2 hit show Love Island.

Viewers quickly went into meltdown, and no doubt too the former Liverpool and England striker, who has already had to face questions over his daughter’s reality TV antics while working as a pundit.

However, the 42-year-old was spotted arriving at Royal Ascot earlier.

And despite this latest furore, the race horse owner was able to smile for the cameras as he rocked up suited and booted.

Gemma’s latest controversial remarks came when Afia asked the girls a question about whether they would "lick a pig's bumhole" for £2000.

While it was a resounding no from the group, Gemma quickly piped up, admitting she would only put her tongue near a horse's posterior because her beloved animal is very "clean".

"I would do a horse's a***, a horse's a*** is clean," she insisted.

"But it's humongous," said Paige.

"Yeah but they only eat grass really," countered Gemma.

Needless to say, fans were grossed out and voiced their horror on social media.

"Bet her daddy's so proud right now," tweeted one, referring to Owen.

A second said: "Did I just hear Gemma correctly? A HORSE?!?!?!"

A third added: "Na, what the f**k someone call the British horse society."

A fourth chipped in: "GEMMA WOULD LICK A HORSES WHATTTT FOR WHATTT?! oh god."

And a fifth weighed in: "Seriously , did I really just hear Gemma say she'd lick a horses arse because it's clean? So that's how she gets them to dance at an international level …. Have a word Dad?"

Gemma is an international dressage rider, but despite her love of the beast, The Sun recently revealed she has only won three times in seven years.

Most recently she won on the international stage in 2020 and in her last outing in July 2021 came a disappointing 46th.

Owen is at Ascot today but it looks like his best chance of a big winner will come later in the week.

Mr McCann, a horse owned by five Liverpool stars, including captain Jordan Henderson, and former Red Adam Lallana is currently a 40-1 shot for the Ascot Britannia Stakes on Thursday.

Owen convinced Liverpool stars Henderson, Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner to get involved with the horse seriously last year and he has won three times, earning connections more than £34,000.

Flaming Rib is a 14-1 chance for the Commonwealth Cup on Friday and will look to make it two wins from his past three runs after beating the Queen's horse King's Lynn back in May.

Ever Given is currently priced up at 10-1 to win the Group 3 Jersey Stakes on Saturday. Victory there will be worth around £65,000 to Owen and his syndicate Dandy Boys.
